Innovation in Action: J2 Innovations Recaps NexusCon 2025

Written by Joanna Benbow | 09 October 2025

The energy at NexusCon 2025 was electric! Over three days, experts across the smart building and IoT industries came together to explore how data, AI, and open platforms are shaping the next generation of intelligent buildings. The J2 Innovations team was proud to be right in the middle of the action demonstrating, collaborating, and sharing insights on what’s next.

Day 1: The Power of FIN Intelligence on Display

J2 kicked off NexusCon with an exciting live demo of FIN Intelligence at the Demo Disco stage. Julio Londono, J2’s Sales Manager for Americas, wowed the crowd with a hands-on look at how FIN Intelligent Tagging, Optimization, and Assistant features bring intuitive, AI-driven workflows to life within the FIN Framework. Julio showcased how J2 Innovations is redefining user experience for smarter, faster, and more connected building management. There were some great questions from the crowd, and we continued the conversations at our booth, exploring the live demo by the conference participants. It was a great feeling to engage on that level with curious minds!

Day 2: AI Meets Facilities Management

The conversation continued when Scott Muench, VP of Knowledge Excellence, presented on the "FM Meets AI: Case Studies in Improving Operational Efficiency " alongside Zoltan Szalay, our partner, EllisDon. Together, they shared real-world examples of how generative AI are reshaping Building Management Systems (BMS) for more sustainable building management and presented a real use case for Code Blue in the Hospital environment. Their presentation underscored a key takeaway: the future of facilities management isn’t just about better data, it’s about contextualized intelligence that empowers decision-making, drives sustainability, and delivers real operational outcomes.

Day 3: Moving Beyond Features to Solutions

The final day brought another highlight with Scott Muench on the Vendor Symposium panel, "Don’t Sell Me a Tool—Solve My Problem." As the industry evolves, buyers are asking for outcomes, not just features. The session focused on how vendors can deliver integrated, scalable, and long-term value that helps customers transition from one-off products to holistic solutions, improving efficiency and performance across their portfolios. J2 Innovations continues to lead this shift by ensuring that every aspect of the FIN Framework is designed to be flexible, open, and outcome-driven—bridging the gap between engineering and operations with intelligent simplicity, giving the building owners the power of data.

The whole conference featured numerous interesting discussion panels, educational sessions, demos and many opportunities to network. And finally...the cherry on the cake was the group hike in the Flatiron Mountains of Boulder, Colorado.

Partnering for Progress: Nexus Labs Collaboration

We’ve loved partnering with Nexus Labs—a platform known for elevating the conversation around building performance, interoperability, and digital transformation—no fluff, just real discussions. Our collaboration extends beyond NexusCon, with J2 contributing thought leadership to the Nexus Labs community. If you haven’t yet, check out these insightful pieces from our VP of Knowledge Excellence, Scott Muench, featured on the Nexus Labs blog: Building Data Needs Context and Light Commercial BAS: Pick a Partner First, Not a Product. Both highlight the importance of contextual data, interoperability, and partnership in driving real progress in the building automation space.

A Bright Future Ahead

From AI-ready BMS platforms to solution-oriented collaboration, NexusCon 2025 reaffirmed what drives J2 Innovations: empowering the built world through open and smarter software, standards, and partnerships that create lasting impact. As we head into the next chapter, we remain committed to advancing FIN Framework and helping our partners turn data into intelligence—and intelligence into action.
