The Magic of Wizards in FIN based Applications

Wizards-FIN

The FIN Framework is a core technology that OEM partners can use to create new products and solutions by leveraging and extending FIN’s built in capabilities. In addition to an application suite, FIN is also a development platform that empowers a developer to utilize both off the shelf functionality and customizations to create a user experience. One example of this customization of the FIN Framework is often called an appliance - suitably named because you plug it in and it simply works out of the box. This is where the power of wizards really comes in.

From a user experience perspective, a wizard is simply a step-by-step process or series of prompts that guides operators through the configuration process. A product based on a wizard approach typically does not require complex engineering tools. By simplifying the engineering process, a project can be deployed without the need for highly skilled labor.

A wizard based approach is an interactive experience that involves both gathering information and creating content. After a series of Q&A and device discovery, the wizard helps build the solution. The FIN Framework then uses this information and combines it with Haystack tags to automatically build the project.

The resulting custom solution is just as easy to use as it is to create. The appliance-like application is characterized by simple navigation, easy to understand graphics, and an intuitive user experience. This user friendly experience adapts through responsive web design across all platforms (desktop, tablet, phone, HMI, etc.)

FIN Wizards in Action

Here are some representative examples of the type of applications that OEM partners could leverage to create their unique product offerings.

MicroBMS

FIN microBMS is a plug’ n play solution to efficiently manage small sites and buildings. The application can make your buildings smart, connected, comfortable and efficient. The simplified user experience makes it easy to monitor, control, and visualize data.

The microBMS builder is a simple, step-by-step configuration wizard to help facilitate the installation of small to mid-sized systems without the need for specialized expertise.

FIN ECO

FIN Equipment Control & Optimization (ECO) is an application suite that provides provisioning, control, visualization, and performance for manufacturers of plants such as chillers, boilers, and heat pumps.

The FIN ECO application provides a wizard to streamline the commissioning and checkout process for deploying a manufacturer’s equipment. This results in a product that provides a foolproof way to deploy a complex system.

The software appliance approach, combined with the manufacturer’s expertise produces a solution with the OEM’s control and optimization knowledge built right in. Therefore, the overall performance and reliability would be maximized right from the day it was started up.

When you build using FIN, you have access to powerful graphical elements and tools to create a better user interface and HMI. These displays are preconfigured and engineered from the factory to easily present performance data, giving your customers a simpler view.
